Sailor's Ahoy!

One of the hottest trends this season is the old favorite 'Nautical' theme. Whilst generally associated with the warmer months, this classic theme is easy to pull off in winter too.

Here are my picks for getting some sailor influences into your wardrobe!

1. Go for bold!
I am really excited about MAC's new collection 'Hello Sailor'. Inspired by the glam of vintage pin-up girls, this collection is fun, sassy and cute packaging to boot. A bright red lip is a easy way to add a little pin-up to your outfit!

2. Button up!
Got a tired old navy jacket that you don't wear anymore? Simply change the buttons to some gold navy ones for an instant and cheap transformation- I've bought some at Centrepoint fabrics in Newmarket but I'm sure you can find them as most fabric/haberdashery stores. Better still, get some old gold plated chain and a couple of safety pins and make yourself some cardigan clips!

3. Beach hair all year!
Get a tousled beach look with our Davines No.14 Sea Salt Primer. Spray it into the lengths of your hair when damp, scrunch the hair with your hands and allow it to dry naturally. Alternatively, spray it directly onto the roots and blow dry the hair upwards for some mega root lift.

4. Accessorize!
A simple necklace or pair of earrings can really make a statement. Even just some bright red (or yellow!) bangles with a striped boat neck top would look great. There's a lot of awesome stuff online- go to www.etsy.com and type in 'Nautical' to the search engine for thousands of vintage and handmade treasures.

5. Get Stripy!
Anything striped screams 'Nautical'! Be sure to add in splashes of colour, even unconventional colour like yellow will look great. If you want to incorporate the stripes in a more subtle way, do it with a bag or shoes. www.shoesofprey.com is a website that allows you to design your shoes online and then they will make them for you. They have just come out with new cotton blend materials in stripes that you can use to create your shoes.

Can I Have Some 50's With That Dress?

So many of my clients tell me how much they love my style and ask where I get my clothes from. The 40's and 50's style that has turned into my day-to-day passion is so feminine and flattering and is growing in popularity across the globe.

All the websites I buy from are vintage reproduction or inspired meaning the companies take old patterns and re-work them and add their own touches. The result is fabulous clothes without weird vintage sizing and average quality fabrics which is often the case with authentic vintage.

If you love this style, it's very easy to incorporate a few pieces into your wardrobe- you certainly don't have to go quite so hardout as me!

One of my all-time favourite websites is www.pinupgirlclothing.com. This is where my love affair with vintage inspired clothing started and I can't see it letting up anytime soon! Everything is made in the USA, great quality and if you spend $300 you can get free shipping with the discount code ccfreeair.

Here are my picks if you want to start your own collection-

The Vamp Top- Comes in a variety of colours and prints and also a dress version. Its a structured top with adjustable straps that means, ladies, that you can go braless! Yes, I know it's a crazy thought, even I didn't believe it, but trust me...no-one will know the difference. That's how amazing this top really is!

The Audrey Skirt- a more modern take on the swing skirt with a cute sash and bow. The shorter length is a good starting point for those who like the 50s style but aren't used to the longer hemlines. It comes in black, navy and hot pink and also three prints that are due to be released soon.

The Deadly Curves Skirt in Victorian Rose Print- Just one of many GORGEOUS pencil skirts Pinup Girl Clothing has. Can be dressed up or down depending on the top chosen and my pick for heels- either nude or mint green like in this picture. This beautiful rose print also features in several styles of dresses, including the swing version below.

The Mon Cheri Dress- Comes in Olive, Dusty Rose, Champagne and Black. The perfect cocktail dress for coming into the colder months. It has pleated hip for a more exaggerated hourglass shape and comes with a this cute velvet belt. Beware of the extreme taper though, many girls have ripped the backseam trying to pull it over their hips!

Finally, no retro outfit is complete without a awesome bag! Pinup Girl Clothing stock lots of bags, including this Getaway Kiss Lock Bag by Lux De Ville.

These are just a few picks out of hundreds of other stunning items including shoes, bags, lingerie and accessories. Be sure to check out the reviews on each item and the 'Coming Soon' Section. If you do decide to purchase, always follow the size chart. I would really recommend liking their facebook page as there is a legion of fans (over 360,000 of them!) who are super helpful if you have questions about sizes- and of course you can always as me!

Happy shopping!
